Background & History

TimeSimplicity's founders have decades of experience building, implementing, and supporting mid-market to enterprise-sized clients for time and attendance solutions. During this time, there were efforts to build a "lite" version only to fail due to the high cost of delivery and sales. When the Internet took the world by storm in the mid- to late-90s, we all thought that ASP solutions would finally solve this market-niche problem.... It didn't.

The problem was that the application was a dumbed-down version ported to a browser with almost no field validations, work flow, or ability to navigate the system well. Those companies that used products built during this time found the process of using the product to be "slow." So slow, in fact, that no one could use them. Bottom line—not enough technology.

As we've moved through this decade, computers have grown more powerful, browsers are now full applications versus HTML renders, and we have this new breed of applications called Web 2.0. It's a shift that's worthy of a name, even if few can describe it well. The Web 2.0 technology allows the browser to deliver rich client side functionality that is so necessary for business applications to be productive. Web 2.0 allows for:

  • Speed! Using AJAX (fancy way of saying "working in the background")
  • Field validations
  • Drop down boxes with the ability to search (think Google)
  • Record validation without a round trip to the server
  • Real help tool tips
